# Members

> View and manage your Squad members

The **Members** section shows all members of your Squad and their wallet addresses. A member is any Solana wallet address added to your Squad, including hardware wallets (Ledger, Trezor, Keystone) and software wallets (Phantom, Backpack, Solflare). Each member signs transactions with their wallet's private key.

<Warning>
  Never add exchange addresses as members because you do not control those private keys.
</Warning>

## View members

Navigate to **Members** in the sidebar to view all current members, their wallet addresses, and their [permissions](/app-guide/members/permissions). Wallet members are listed under **Wallets** and nested Squads under **Squads**. If a member has spending limits, select the spending limits chip on their row to see them.

## Add a member

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Members section">
    Navigate to **Members** in the sidebar and select **Add member**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter member details">
    Enter the member's wallet address in **Public key**. Optionally add a **Nickname** and a **Note**. On a Pro plan, choose their [permissions](/app-guide/members/permissions). On a Basic plan, new members receive all three permissions.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the transaction">
    Select **Initiate**. The member is added once the transaction is approved and executed.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Add a Squad as a member

A Squad can be a member of another Squad and vote as a single member. See [Nested Squads](/app-guide/members/nested-squads) for how to set it up and how voting works.

## Remove a member

<Steps>
  <Step title="Select the member to remove">
    Navigate to **Members** in the sidebar and select the **Remove member** icon on the member's row. If removing the member leaves fewer voting members than the current threshold, set a **New threshold** in the same transaction.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the transaction">
    Select **Initiate**. The member is removed once the transaction is approved and executed.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Adding or removing members invalidates all Active transactions. They show as Cancelled and can no longer be approved. Ready transactions in the **Vault** tab can still be executed. Ready transactions in the **Config** tab cannot. Complete pending transactions before making membership changes.
</Warning>

## Rename members

Member names are saved locally on your device and are not shared with other members. Select a member's name, type the new name, and press Enter to save.

## Best practices

* **Verify addresses.** Double-check wallet addresses before adding members.
* **Use descriptive names.** Rename members to identify them at a glance.
* **Complete pending transactions first.** Adding or removing members invalidates all Active transactions.
* **Assign Voter permission only to nested Squads.** Proposer and Executor permissions are not supported for nested Squads.

<Accordion title="FAQ">
  **Can I add a centralized exchange address as a member?** No. You do not control the private keys for exchange addresses, so you cannot sign transactions from them. **Does adding or removing a member affect existing transactions?** Yes. All Active transactions are invalidated when membership changes. Ready transactions in the **Vault** tab can still be executed. Complete pending transactions before making changes.
