# Time Lock

> Delay proposal execution for additional security review

A time lock adds a waiting period between when a proposal reaches the approval threshold and when it can be executed. This gives members time to review approved proposals and cancel anything suspicious before it goes through.

Time locks apply globally to all proposals once set.

## Set a time lock

1. Navigate to **Settings**
2. Under the **Security** tab, find the **Time lock** row
3. Select a duration: **1 Hour**, **1 Day**, **1 Week**, or **Custom** to enter a value in seconds. The maximum is 90 days
4. Select **Initiate** to submit the proposal for approval
5. The time lock activates once the proposal is executed

## Remove a time lock

1. Navigate to **Settings**
2. Under the **Security** tab, select **None** for the time lock period
3. Select **Initiate**, then approve and execute the proposal

<Warning>
  Activating, changing, or removing a time lock invalidates all Active proposals. They show as Cancelled and can no longer be approved. Ready proposals in the **Vault** tab can still be executed. Ready proposals in the **Config** tab cannot. Complete pending proposals before making this change.
</Warning>

## How it works

When a time lock is active, proposals that reach **Ready** status are frozen for the configured duration. No member can execute them until the waiting period passes. After the period elapses, any member with Executor permission can execute the proposal as normal.

This is especially useful for high-value Squads where an extra layer of review reduces the risk of unauthorized or erroneous actions going through immediately.

<Accordion title="FAQ">
  **Can I execute a proposal immediately if needed?**

  No. Once a time lock is set, all proposals must wait for the full duration. Plan accordingly for time-sensitive actions.

  **Does the time lock apply to spending limit transfers?**

  No. Spending limit transfers bypass the proposal process entirely, so time locks do not apply to them.
