# Mandatory Sign-In with Off-chain Message Signing

## Overview

Some applications require users to sign in by signing an off-chain message. This can be problematic for Smart Wallets where the connected address is a PDA (Program Derived Address) that cannot sign messages.

## Problem

Applications that mandate sign-in via off-chain message signing create barriers for SquadsX users. The Squad vault address is a PDA, which cannot produce cryptographic signatures for off-chain messages. SquadsX does not support `solana:signMessage` or `solana:signIn`, so an app that requires either one cannot be used with SquadsX.

## Solution

* Avoid making sign-in mandatory for using the app
* Consider scenarios where a wallet can't sign messages (PDA)

### Implementation Guidelines

* Make off-chain message signing optional where possible
* Provide alternative authentication methods for PDA-based wallets
* Avoid requiring signature-based authentication as the only option
* Avoid blocking app functionality behind mandatory sign-in
