# Get started with SquadsX

> Install the SquadsX browser extension and connect your Squad to Solana apps

Set up SquadsX to start using your Squad with external Solana apps. The process takes a few minutes and requires an active Pro subscription.

## Install and set up SquadsX

<Steps>
  <Step title="Subscribe to Pro">
    SquadsX requires a Pro plan. If you have not subscribed yet, see [pricing](/getting-started/pricing) for details.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Install the extension">
    Install the SquadsX extension from the Chrome Web Store. If the extension is missing or out of date when you start the setup, Squads shows a **Get SquadsX** or **Update SquadsX** button that opens the store.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the SquadsX setup">
    Navigate to **Members** in the sidebar. Under **Modules**, select **Add SquadsX**, then **Start**. The connected wallet must be a member of your Squad with the Proposer permission, because it submits the transaction that adds the SquadsX key. It also needs at least 0.01 SOL.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose your SquadsX key">
    The SquadsX extension opens. If this is your first time, create a password and select **Create & continue**. SquadsX generates your first key, and you will use this password to unlock the extension. If you already use SquadsX, unlock the extension, choose the key to register, and select **Confirm**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Authorize the key">
    Back in the Squads app, review the SquadsX key and select **Sign & submit**. Your wallet signs first, then the SquadsX extension counter-signs.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Approve the SquadsX key">
    Squads creates a proposal to add the SquadsX key as a member of your Squad with Proposer permission only. Your existing members must approve and execute it from the **Transactions** page. Until then, the SquadsX card under **Modules** shows **Pending**. Once the proposal executes, SquadsX is ready to use.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Info>
  The SquadsX key has Proposer permission by default. It can create proposals inside your Squad but cannot approve or execute them. This keeps your multisig security intact.
</Info>

## Connect to a Solana app

Once SquadsX is set up, you can connect your Squad to any compatible Solana app.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Navigate to the app">
    Open a Solana app you want to interact with. See the [compatible apps](/integrations/squadsx/compatible-apps) list for tested options.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Approve in your Squad">
    The action appears as a proposal in your Squad's **Transactions** page. Members review, approve, and execute the proposal based on your threshold.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Once the proposal executes, the action takes effect in the Solana app.

## Fee configuration

If [Fee Relayer](/app-guide/members/fee-relayer) is enabled for your Squad, SquadsX proposal fees are paid from your Squad's SOL balance (up to the spending limit set for Fee Relayer).

If Fee Relayer is turned off, the SquadsX key needs its own SOL to submit proposals. Send a small amount of SOL to the SquadsX public key address to cover fees.

## Remove SquadsX

To remove SquadsX from your Squad, navigate to **Members** and select **Remove SquadsX key** on the SquadsX card under **Modules**. This creates a proposal to remove the key, which your members approve and execute like any other member removal.

<Accordion title="FAQ">
  **Can I use SquadsX with multiple Squads?**

  Yes. Switch between Squads from within the SquadsX extension. Only one Squad is active at a time, and a connected app keeps the address it connected with, so reconnect the app after you switch.

  **Do I need to keep the SquadsX extension open while proposals are being approved?**

  No. Once the transaction appears on your Squad's **Transactions** page, approval and execution happen in the Squads app. You can close the extension and the Solana app.

  **What permissions does the SquadsX key have?**

  Proposer only. It can create proposals but cannot approve, reject, or execute them. Other Squad members handle approval through the Squads app.
