Solana charges rent to keep accounts active onchain. Squads creates supporting accounts for every transaction so members can approve and execute asynchronously. Once a transaction reaches a finalized state, those accounts are no longer needed, and Rent Reclaim closes them to return the SOL rent to your Squad.
Reclaiming rent does not affect auditability. Transaction history remains available onchain through Solana’s ledger.

How it works

Rent Reclaim applies to transactions in a finalized state: Executed, Cancelled, and Rejected. Closing the supporting accounts returns the SOL rent to the Reclaim Destination address, which is preset to your Squads Vault. Rent is the SOL held to keep an account active on Solana. When an account is closed, that SOL is returned to the destination address.

Enable Rent Reclaim

Open Settings

Navigate to Settings in the sidebar and open the Other tab.

Turn on Rent Reclaim

Select Enable on the Rent reclaim row. Enabling Rent Reclaim creates a transaction that requires threshold approval.

Approve and execute

Members approve the transaction in the Transactions page. Once executed, Rent Reclaim is active for your Squad.

Auto Rent Reclaim

Once Rent Reclaim is enabled, an optional Auto rent reclaim toggle appears on the same row. The toggle applies immediately and does not require approval. When on, Squads reclaims rent automatically as soon as a transaction is executed. Manual reclaim is still required for Cancelled and Rejected transactions.

Reclaim destination

All reclaimed rent is sent to the Reclaim Destination address. This is preset to your Squads Vault and can be updated from the Settings page.
  1. Navigate to Settings, open the Other tab, and select Change address on the Rent reclaim row
  2. Enter the new Destination address
  3. Select Initiate. The change applies once members approve and execute the transaction with threshold approval

Reclaim rent for a single transaction

Once Rent Reclaim is enabled, any member can reclaim rent on a finalized transaction without threshold approval.
  1. Navigate to Transactions in the sidebar
  2. Select a transaction with an Executed, Cancelled, or Rejected status
  3. Select Reclaim rent

Reclaim rent for multiple transactions

When Rent Reclaim is enabled, the Transactions page shows an Unclaimed rent total next to a Claim button. Select Claim to reclaim rent from up to 20 finalized transactions per click. Repeat until no unclaimed rent remains.

Best practices

  • Enable Rent Reclaim early. Close accounts and recover SOL as your transaction history grows.
  • Use Auto Rent Reclaim for routine activity. It removes the manual step for executed transactions.
  • Verify the Reclaim Destination. Confirm the address before enabling if you want rent sent somewhere other than the Squads Vault.
