How it works
Select your tokens, set a slippage tolerance, and initiate the proposal. Once approved and executed, the swap completes at the available market price. Unlike limit orders, swaps execute immediately at market price. Use swaps when you want to trade now rather than wait for a specific price.Complex multi-hop routes may be unavailable because of transaction size limits, which can affect pricing on some pairs. The route used is shown before you initiate the swap.
Swap tokens
- Navigate to Trade in the sidebar
- Select the Swap tab
- Choose the sub-account you want to swap from
- Select the tokens to trade (e.g., SOL to USDC) and enter the amount
- Set your Slippage Tolerance: 3%, 5%, 10%, or Custom (max 15%)
- Select Next and review the details:
- Route: the venues the swap is routed through
- Rate: exchange rate for the selected route
- Slippage: your tolerance percentage
- Price Impact: how your trade size affects the price
- Min. Received: minimum tokens based on slippage
- AMM Fee: fees paid to the AMM for routing
- Platform Fee: 0% for swaps
- Add a note (optional) and select Initiate to create the proposal
- The swap completes once the proposal reaches the threshold and is executed
Trading a token that’s never been in your account? You need 0.003 SOL to create the token account (ATA).
Best practices
- Execute quickly. Coordinate approvals to execute within ~30 minutes. Longer delays increase the chance of price movement causing failures.
- Avoid slippage extremes. Too low causes failed proposals. Too high risks unfavorable rates. More volatile assets need higher tolerance.
- Watch price impact. High price impact means your trade is large relative to liquidity. Consider splitting into smaller trades. Above 5% you are asked to confirm before continuing, and above 10% the swap is disabled.
- Use limit orders for large trades. If you’re not in a hurry, limit orders let you set a specific price without slippage risk.
FAQ
FAQ
How long do I have to execute a swap? For best results, execute within ~30 minutes. After that, prices may move beyond your slippage tolerance or the route may become unavailable. Why did my swap get worse pricing than expected?Complex multi-hop routes may be unavailable because of transaction size limits. For less liquid pairs, this can affect pricing. Check the route and price impact before you initiate. What’s the difference between swaps and limit orders?Swaps execute immediately at market price. Limit orders execute only at the exact price you specify. Use swaps for speed, limit orders for precision.
